others this summer about trading the underachieving Dorsett

Some fans were left scratching their heads when news broke that the Indianapolis Colts traded their 2015 first round pick Phillip Dorsett just eight days before the regular season began. It was understandable why fans were frustrated, after factoring in that the trade was with the New England Patriots, for a third string quarterback named Jacoby Brissett.

Peter King explained how it all went down in his MMQB article.

“It was a text message from New England at 7 p.m. Friday that started the trade that, when it was complete at midday Saturday, knocked people off their beach chairs on this Labor Day weekend. On Friday evening, a Patriots operative texted the Colts and asked, and I am paraphrasing Any interest in Jacoby Brissett for Phillip Dorsett?” King wrote.

King also went on to say “Indy had talked to teams Rams, Patriots, several https://www.patriotsnefans.com/deatrich-wise-jersey-c-11.html others this summer about trading the underachieving Dorsett — two years, 51 catches since taken as the 29th overall pick in 2015 — most around the league thought the Colts would get a mid round pick, or a pick plus a swap of higher picks.

So after the Patriots reached out, the Colts did their due diligence, watching tape of Brissett, especially liking his poise against a hard Houston rush in a September 2016 start. By noon Saturday the Colts had decided to do the deal.”

Dorsett had underperformed in his two years with the Colts. In the 26 games he played, Dorsett caught 51 passes, for 753 yards and 3 touchdowns. Although he had loads of potential, and game changing speed he measured at the combine https://www.patriotsnefans.com/kenny-moore-ii-jersey-c-10.html, the coaching staff and management felt he’d never realize that potential and decided to trade him.

On the other side of the trade, Jacoby Brissett was a third round pick in 2016 for the Patriots. He did get limited playing time his rookie season, while Tom Brady was serving his suspension and backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was nursing an injury. In that time he went 34/55 for 400 yards Andrew Jelks Jersey, with no passing touchdowns or interceptions.

Immediately after the trade had taken place, the general consensus was that the Patriots won the trade. After all they were getting a first round player for a third string quarterback. Bill Belichick is a coaching genius, and many thought he would be able to turn Dorsett’s career around. However, this has simply not been the case. Dorsett has been nonexistent as ever with the Patriots. Through six games, he’s brought in 4 receptions for 85 yards.

For the Colts, Jacoby Brissett’s stat line reads 77/127, 997 yards , 2 touchdowns, 3 interceptions, and 3 rushing touchdowns. Brissett has not posted all star numbers, but he has led his team to two wins.

Some may say it’s too early to tell who “won” this trade https://www.patriotsnefans.com/kyle-van-noy-jersey-c-12.html, as Dorsett could come around later in the season. However as of now Brissett has not only given the Colts more substance than Dorsett has given the Patriots but he has kept the Colts alive in the playoff hunt, and for that reason alone the Colts have won this trade.
